It is the nearest beach to the house, but seasonal daytime restrictions apply. Outside restricted dates and hours, it is a convenient option for sand, rock pools and a walk towards the coast path.

Bude combines year-round dog-friendly stretches of coast with seasonal rules on its busiest beaches. A little planning makes it easy to match the walk to the time of year.
Know before you go
Beach rules change seasonally.
Crooklets has a daytime dog ban from 15 May to 30 September. Dogs are welcome on Summerleaze, but Cornwall Council requires them to be on a lead between 10am and 6pm from 21 May to 30 September. Rules can change, so check the Council’s current guidance and the beach signs before every visit.
Tommy’s Pit
An informal local stop rather than a managed dog-swimming facility. Keep dogs under close control and away from steep banks and the water: depth, water quality and submerged hazards can change. Check current signs and leave if conditions are doubtful.
Summerleaze Beach
Dogs are welcome, with seasonal lead requirements during the daytime. Dogs must not enter Bude Sea Pool and should be kept under control around swimmers, families and wildlife.
Northcott Mouth
Northcott Mouth is a useful year-round dog-friendly beach north of Crooklets. The coast path and cliffs require care: keep dogs under close control and stay well back from unstable cliff edges.
Walks beyond the sand
The canal towpath offers a flatter option, while the South West Coast Path provides bigger views and more demanding terrain. Leads are sensible around livestock, wildlife, roads and cliff edges.
A useful dog-friendly Bude walk
The South West Coast Path’s official Bude Coast and Canal route is a 5.7-mile circular walk combining the towpath, coast and town. Read the Path’s current dogs-on-the-Coast-Path guidance, and use a lead around livestock, roads, wildlife and cliff edges.
